A call was received by Kleinmond police at about 9am this morning regarding a person who was fishing just outside Rooi Els where he parked his vehicle in the first parking bay outside the town on the mountain pass. The vehicle owner reported a man wearing a reflective jacket (possibly posing as a car guard) had gotten into his vehicle (apparently the vehicle was not locked) and had removed a pair of binoculars, a camera and a blank gun. The suspect then fled on foot in the direction of Gordon's Bay. Kleinmond police contacted ASK Response in Kleinmond, who in turn contacted ASK Pringle Bay response to search for the suspect. Pringle Bay response was attending alarms at the time and when he drove out of Rooi Els and arrived at the third parking bay the police had caught the suspect and arrested him. All the stolen items were thrown away and the only item found so far was the blank gun. The suspect is a Charlie male in his late twenties.
