In May this year, seven people, including an eight year-old child were senselessly shot dead in Willowvale, Eastern Cape.
In a joint intelligence-driven operation, three suspects who were alleged to have committed the murders were tracked using the NAVIC camera system from Willowvale and were successfully apprehended in Swellendam, Western Cape by a multidisciplinary SAPS team.
Three arrests were made and the vehicle they were travelling in was impounded The quick arrests were thanks to exceptional police work as well the use of available technology which allowed our local Eastern Cape NAVIC network to track the movements of the suspects for SAPS, allowing them to prepare the ideal spot for interception.
This is just one example of hundreds that we see where SAPS work with our private security companies as well as community neighbourhood watches to coordinate the take down of criminals.
ANPR technology, together with verified alerts manned by trained professionals at our NAVIC National Control Centre (NNOC), significantly improve the chances of success. But this solution also means our security personnel have the best and latest information to ensure they can plan ahead and reduce potential injury in the course of their operations.
The NAVIC offering is more than just ANPR technology. It’s a coordinated, verified, crime solution.
