KNIFE-WIELDING WALL JUMPER GETS NABBED!

On Sunday 10th March 2024 in the late afternoon a suspect bravo male was seen on camera in the yard of a residential property in 2nd Avenue in Kleinmond. The suspect was then witnessed by a Kleinmond Street Watch member running away from the property and jumped over the wall of another property further down the road. After a few minutes another report came in that the suspect was dangerous as he was armed with a knife and had already confronted someone. In the interim period there was a mobilization of private security companies, police and Kleinmond Street Watch members in order to catch the suspect. A while later a Kleinmond Street Watch member had reported that the suspect was witnessed by a resident on the corner of 1st Street and 4th Avenue jumping over walls of properties and the police spotted him again in 2nd Avenue doing the same thing.

The suspect eventually made his way through 2 properties in 1st Avenue and ultimately ended up in a yard in Strand Street where 2 of our response officers, Elzino and Dominic requested back up support and Sandownbay Security responded together with all other parties including the police. The security officers managed to prevent the suspect from escaping out of the yard which gave the police the opportunity to enter the yard and place the suspect under arrest. The suspect was searched but it appeared that he threw the knife away. He was taken to the Kleinmond police station. It was later established that he tried to break into a garage at a property in Lower Beach Road as well but fortunately did not gain entry.

The entire drama took approximately 2 hours from when the incident was reported to when the chase ended with our wall jumper's eventual apprehension. This was a fantastic example of the cooperation and determination of everybody standing and working together as a team in order to stamp out crime. ASK Management would like to thank everybody who was involved with this incident and we are especially proud of the performance of our 2 response officers Elzino Arendse and Dominic Cedras. We are very proud of both of you. - Wayne Kruger
